HEALTH TALK |
By: Bolade Adesokan |
The skin is
the largest organ in the body. It protects other organs in the body. It
serves as a covering, and because it is the first thing people see, it
must be cared for as much as, or maybe even more than ,some organs in
the body.
It is important to note that
there are simple things that can be done to maintain a healthy skin
without spending thousands on skin care products that promise overnight
rejuvenation.
The following are some tips to ensure a healthy skin:
- Healthy food is important for
healthy skin. Adding lots of green vegetables and a variety of fruits
to your diet will ensure that you get the needed vitamins. Also, the
benefits of onions and garlic in your diet cannot be overemphasized as
they help to clear your blood vessels of toxins.
-Every organ in the body needs
water to keep going and growing, so does the skin. The skin needs to be
constantly hydrated to keep it looking healthy and prevent breakdown of
skin integrity. To keep your skin hydrated, moisturize frequently during
the day, especially after every bath. Ointments such as Vaseline keep
moisture in more than creams do, although they may be too greasy
especially in hot weather. Using a small amount of ointment along with
your cream, or using your cream more frequently will ensure that your
skin is well moisturized.
-Take time to wash off make-up
or cream every night as much as possible. This will ensure that blocked
pores are opened up. It is important to stay aware from creams that have
the tendency to clog up your pores, especially on your face, causing
acne and infection.
- The effect of excessive sun
exposure to the skin cannot be overemphasized. It is best to stay away
from the sun when it is scorching hot between the hours of 11am and 3pm.
The excessive exposure to sunlight causes wrinkles and gradually causes
irreparable damage to skin structures.
Take good care of your skin!
